Somatic Therapy
Many of us have experienced some form of trauma in our life. Traumatic experiences can affect our body, mind and emotions. Sometimes we may not even remember the traumatic event, or know how we have been affected by certain experiences. However, those experiences continue to live in us. These traumatic experiences are stored in our bodies, as tensions, physical or emotional pain or as disease.
In order to heal, we need to address these places in our bodies through conscious awareness, using certain somatic interventions that help to discharge the traumatic energy and restore balance.
Many clients come to somatic therapy because they have seen the limited effectiveness of talk therapy. In somatic therapy, the traumatic energy trapped in the nervous system is addressed through movement, breath and staying with and following sensations in the body.
I had clients who have reported feeling more grounded and regulated after somatic therapy sessions. And over time, they have been able to increase capacity for emotional regulation.
It doesn’t matter what type pf trauma one has experienced, wether it’s childhood traumas of neglect or abuse or attachment issues, or if it has been sudden shock traumas of death, loss, or accidents and natural disasters, Somatic therapy shows to be a powerful way of addressing the trauma.
